There’s no real off-season in motorsport anymore. Whether it’s Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, MotoGP or endurance racing, there’s a major event worth tuning into almost every weekend of the calendar year. Some of the biggest moments of 2026 are already in the books, with some real surprises in tow, and several of the year’s signature events are yet to come.
This guide from Sports Arcane takes you through the biggest weekends on the racing calendar, what’s gone so far and what’s still to come so you know exactly which dates deserve a place on your watchlist.
The Daytona 500: NASCAR’s Season-Opening Spectacle
The 2026 NASCAR season began with the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15 at Daytona International Speedway, aka “The Great American Race.” That created the kind of chaos the event is known for, with a record 26 different leaders in 65 lead changes in a 41-car field.
Tyler Reddick and 23XI Racing won, weaving through late crashes to beat Chase Elliott to the line for his first career Daytona 500 victory. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Joey Logano completed the podium. Daytona sets the tone for the season for NASCAR fans, and this year’s edition served as a reminder to everyone of why it’s considered the Super Bowl of stock car racing.
Motorsport’s “Triple Crown” Weekend
Three of the biggest events in the sport are always held on or near the same weekend in late May and 2026 was no different. On May 24, Felix Rosenqvist won the Indianapolis 500, “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” with a purse of more than $30 million and a winner’s share of more than $4.3 million.
Memorial Day weekend also featured the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR’s longest race on the Cup Series calendar. The edition this year included an interesting subplot as veteran driver Katherine Legge attempted “The Double,” racing both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, something that only a handful of drivers in history have ever attempted.
The Monaco Grand Prix, the third race of motorsport’s unofficial Triple Crown, followed a couple of weeks later on June 7. Kimi Antonelli was imperious in the streets of Monte Carlo, becoming the youngest ever winner of the event and completing a Grand Slam in the process. The race was not without its drama, however, with seven drivers retiring, including Max Verstappen at the start and home favourite Charles Leclerc crashing late while running for the podium. It was also a weekend that saw McLaren reach a landmark as they lined up on the grid for their 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans: Endurance Racing’s Ultimate Test
The world’s best endurance drivers met up in France for the 94th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13-14, one week after Monaco. The race delivered on its late-drama reputation as a tense battle between sister Toyota entries was decided by a team-orders call on Sunday morning.
Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and former Formula 1 driver Nyck de Vries held off a BMW M Hybrid V8 by 11 seconds in the #7 Toyota to end Ferrari’s three-year winning streak at the event. It was Toyota’s first win at Le Mans in four years and the first overall victory at the race for De Vries. South Korean automaker Genesis also made history at this year’s event, becoming the first Korean team to race in the top Hypercar class at Le Mans.
Formula 1
The 2026 Formula 1 season has been must-watch TV since the first race thanks to a radically reworked set of technical regulations and a close-fought title fight. With its history and passionate crowd, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone was one of the season’s marquee rounds, and Charles Leclerc claimed his first win of the year, snapping Ferrari back into form after a difficult 2025 campaign.
It’s about halfway through the season and there are still a number of rounds that have real championship implications. The Belgian Grand Prix at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the United States Grand Prix in Austin and the season-ending races in the Middle East will all feature in deciding who finally lifts the 2026 Drivers’ Championship. The gap between the leading drivers of Mercedes and Ferrari is so small at present that these last Grands Prix are proving to be some of the most important we have seen in years.
MotoGP
The MotoGP 2026 calendar is of added importance as it is the final season before a big technical shake-up comes in 2027. The series expanded to a record 22 rounds this year and Brazil made its return to the calendar for the first time in years, giving the championship a truly global footprint that extended from the season opener in Thailand in March through to the year’s final rounds.
Classic rounds like the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and the Dutch TT at Assen remain among the season’s most anticipated stops, both known for producing some of the tightest, most unpredictable racing on the calendar. With the sport’s engine formula, tire supplier, and aerodynamic rules all set to change dramatically next year, this season doubles as one last look at the current generation of MotoGP machinery before it’s retired for good.
NASCAR
The second half of NASCAR’s season is particularly intriguing for 2026 with the return of “The Chase,” the elimination-free playoff format the series used from 2004-2013. Once the 26-race regular season ends, the 16 drivers with the most points move on to a 10-race postseason with no more automatic win-and-you’re-in bids and no elimination rounds in between.
The final race of the regular season, the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway, always feels a little bigger, the last chance for drivers to lock in a better playoff seed. Then it’s the championship finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where the driver with the most points accumulated through the postseason stretch will be crowned champion for the first time under the reworked format.
IndyCar
The 2026 IndyCar calendar will feature 17 races, with some new street circuit additions in addition to the Indy 500, and breathe new life into a schedule that already features a mix of ovals, road courses and downtown street tracks better than any other American racing series. That variety is still IndyCar’s trademark advantage, demanding that drivers become experts in vastly different fields within a single season, rather than letting them focus on one type of track.
With the series’ hybrid-assisted power units and push-to-pass strategy now in play on the newer street venues, it will be interesting to see how teams adjust as the year moves toward its championship rounds. In tight downtown circuits, qualifying position and tire strategy are even more important than on IndyCar’s more traditional oval tracks.
What makes 2026 stand out
There is a volume of change happening at the same time in every big series. Formula 1 is racing under its biggest regulation reset in decades, NASCAR brought back a beloved playoff format, MotoGP is closing out its current technical era, and IndyCar continues to expand its footprint with new venues. Add in milestone moments such as Toyota’s return to Le Mans and a teenage driver winning in Monaco and this year has already produced storylines that will be talked about for years.
This kind of calendar density also offers sustained interest across nearly the entire year for fans wanting to track the sport on a business and MotorSports betting level, as opposed to a few marquee weekends surrounded by quiet periods. Regardless of which series you follow the most closely, there’s still plenty left to come in the remaining months of 2026.
