10 Young Motorsport Drivers to Watch in 2026: Future champions across Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar & MotoGP

All racing series eventually pass the baton on to a new generation and 2026 looks to be one of those transitional years across the board. A teenager is leading the Formula 1 standings. NASCAR just fast-tracked one of its most hyped prospects ever into the Cup Series. Two of the new MotoGP riders are former world champions in two smaller categories. And the IndyCar grid has got drivers in their early 20s that appear ready to win races the moment their equipment catches up to their talent.

If you’re a casual fan or if you’re tracking futures markets for seasons to come, here are ten young drivers across all four major series to keep an eye on this year.

Formula 1’s Next Generation

Kimi Antonelli isn’t just a name to keep an eye on anymore, he’s leading the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship in only his second full season with Mercedes. Antonelli has already established himself as the face of his generation in F1 after a dominant first half of 2026, which brought five wins and a record-breaking victory at the Monaco Grand Prix where he became the youngest driver ever to win there and achieve a Grand Slam.

After an impressive rookie season with the junior Red Bull team, Isack Hadjar earned himself a seat with Red Bull Racing in 2026, partnering Max Verstappen in one of the toughest seats on the grid. Hadjar has already secured his first Red Bull podium of the season, a strong early sign that the team’s belief in him was justified.

Arvid Lindblad is the only true rookie on the whole of the 2026 F1 grid, making his debut with Racing Bulls having come through the Red Bull junior driver pipeline. Lindblad is still only a teenager, and his performances this season will help dictate how soon the next wave of Red Bull-developed talent is fast-tracked towards a factory Red Bull seat.

NASCAR’s Fast-Tracked Phenoms

Connor Zilisch may be the most hyped prospect in NASCAR history. The 19-year-old driver won 10 races and the regular-season title in his rookie season in the Xfinity Series and jumped right into a full-time Cup Series ride in 2026 with Trackhouse Racing, driving the No. 88 Chevrolet. His resume already includes class wins at the Rolex 24 and 12 hours of Sebring, and veterans like Joey Logano have spoken about just how demanding the jump to Cup racing will be, even for a talent this obvious.

Over the last several seasons, Corey Heim has been a dominant force in the NASCAR Truck Series, establishing himself as one of the more polished young drivers moving up the sport’s development pipeline. Heim remains one of the clearest future Cup Series candidates outside of Zilisch, with a resume built on consistent winning at multiple levels of stock car racing, and he continues to push for more opportunities in NASCAR’s national touring series.

MotoGP’s Rising Riders

Pedro Acosta has already won world titles in the Moto3 and Moto2 classes and, aged just 22, is now chasing his first win in the premier MotoGP class. The talent is not in question, either. Ducati has already signed him to join its factory team alongside Marc Márquez for 2027 and 2028, which goes to show just how good the paddock thinks his ceiling is before we even get to that first premier-class win.

Fermín Aldeguer becomes the youngest full-time MotoGP rider on the grid in 2026, after making his debut in the class last year following a two-year loan switch to Gresini. Still developing at the sport’s highest level, Aldeguer is the next name on a long list of Spanish riders who have used MotoGP’s development pathway to reach the premier class ahead of schedule.

IndyCar’s Breakout Candidates

Kyffin Simpson enters his third season with Chip Ganassi Racing, one of the most successful teams in the sport, after a sophomore season that saw him take his first career podium in Toronto. It’s worth noting that Simpson had more IndyCar starts before his 21st birthday than Ganassi champions Scott Dixon or Alex Palou did at the same age, an indication of how early his development curve has begun.

Louis Foster returns for his second full season in IndyCar after winning Rookie of the Year in 2025 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. His stunning pole position at Road America showed genuine one-lap pace and with the team reportedly making structural gains ahead of 2026, Foster looks a strong candidate to convert that pace into his first career podium this season.

Dennis Hauger will be on the 2026 IndyCar grid following an impressive championship-winning campaign in Indy NXT, with six wins, 11 podiums and eight poles in just one season. Hauger was a multiple race winner in F2 before making the leap to American open-wheel racing and enters his rookie season at Dale Coyne Racing with a technical partnership with Andretti Global that provides him with more resources than most first-year IndyCar drivers have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kimi Antonelli is leading the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship in just his second full season with Mercedes. He’s one of the youngest drivers to lead a championship deep into a season in recent F1 history.

Zilisch’s first season in the Xfinity Series was one of the most dominant in recent memory with ten wins and a regular-season championship. Trackhouse Racing and Chevrolet felt his accomplishments and maturity warranted a quicker track to the Cup Series rather than a longer development time in one of NASCAR’s lower levels.

Not yet, but he's got a few podiums in his first three seasons in the class. Ducati has already made the move to sign Acosta to its factory team from 2027 – a sign that the belief is there that he will deliver in the top class, having already won world titles in both the Moto3 and Moto2 categories.

Official series websites, team social media accounts, and standard sports broadcast coverage remain the most reliable ways to follow results throughout the season. Many series also publish detailed rookie and development driver standings separate from the main championship table, making it easier to track this specific group's progress.
